W. Leslie Whittaker Memorial Scholarship
To be eligible, full-time students must have completed at least 24 credit hours of college coursework, including the basic skills requirements, and have achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to students who have experience with or are planning to work with young people in the basic literacy skills or reading and writing. Candidates will write a 500 word essay describing specific instances/success stories of the applicant working with at-risk students in the areas of reading and writing. The essay should discuss how these undertakings have shaped the applicant and their career goals. Applicants should clearly define “at-risk” and focus on work done after high school.
