Wolohan Family Foundation
Wolohan Lumber Company was established in 1964 and headquartered in Saginaw. The company was a full-line retailer of lumber, building materials, and related products used for new construction, home improvement and maintenance. Services were provided for consumer “do-it-yourself” customers and contractors.
Richard V. Wolohan was the principal founder of the company, beginning his working career at 16 years of age at his father’s grain storage and lumber business. James L. Wolohan, Richard’s son, served as President and CEO of the company for many years. He also served on the SVSU Foundation Board of Directors.
The company and the Wolohan Family Foundation established a scholarship fund in 1995 and continued to generously support the fund to make more scholarships available to SVSU students. Later, the scholarship was developed into the Richard V. Wolohan Fellowship in Leadership and Service, to encourage students to demonstrate the kind of community leadership that characterized Mr. Wolohan’s life.
