The Gettel Family

Herbert Gettel retired from Gettel Motors in the spring of 1995, and was recognized as a long and successful owner of farm equipment and automotive sales businesses in the Thumb area. He and his wife, Doris, were friends to Saginaw Valley State University for over 20 years. Herb was very involved in Athletic fund raising during that time, and an active member of the Cardinal Club for 11 years. Also, he was involved in raising funds for the university in general as a member of the Annual Fund Committee for 14 years. He also served on the Board of Fellows from 1980 to 2001. In 1999, Herb received the Distinguished Service Medallion from SVSU and in 2000 was awarded with an Honorary Alumni Award. This scholarship is established by the Gettel family to assist Thumb area students pursuing degrees at SVSU.
