The Case Family

The Case Family

In 1881, Frederick E. Case opened his livery business on Adams Street in Saginaw. In 1901, his son, Winfred L. Case, joined him in F.E. Case and Son Livery and Funeral Service, and became one of Michigan’s first licensed funeral directors. Upon Frederick’s death, the company name changed to W.L. Case and Company. W.L. Case often provided services without pay during the Depression, and was an anonymous benefactor to many in need. The company has remained family-owned and operated continuously, through six generations. In 1996, four generations of the family worked together. The business currently has five locations throughout Saginaw and Merrill, including the original location on Adams Street where the business began more than 100 years ago.

The Case family are active in their community, belonging to and supporting a number of civic organizations. The Case family have generously supported the Law & Finance Department, the Annual Fund, and the Case Family Law & Finance Scholarship at Saginaw Valley State University. The scholarship fund was established in 2002 by Winfred L. Case to assist students from Saginaw County pursuing degrees in the College of Business and Management, with majors in Finance or minors in Legal Studies. Learn more at www.casefuneralhome.com
