SVSU Support Staff Association

SVSU Support Staff Association

The Support Staff Association (SSA) was organized in 1980 by the Secretarial/Clerical employees of SVSU and recognized by the University in the same year. The Association expanded their membership in 1990 by merging with the Business/Plant Services staff. SVSU and the Support Staff Association have worked together to improve the working conditions, wages and benefits of SSA employees. Most importantly, their collaboration has produced a beautiful campus and an excellent learning environment for students, faculty and staff.

This Endowed Scholarship was first established in 2012 as “The SVSU Support Staff Association Endowed Scholarship” to invest in the education of SSA members who wish to take classes at SVSU. Those eligible include current and past members of the SSA, their spouses, and their children or grandchildren. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books, or supplies.
In 2016, it the scholarship was renamed “The Gloria J. Wagener Support Staff Association Endowed Scholarship.” Gloria served the SVSU community as a support staff member for 42 years, most recently as Administrative Secretary for the Office of Career Services. Gloria passed away suddenly Thursday, April 14, 2016. Her friends and colleagues wish to honor her memory by naming this scholarship for her.
