Stephen and Dena Wirt

Stephen Wirt was the president and founder of Wirt Financial and Leasing Services. The company provides leasing services for a wide range of products and equipment, from fax machines to airplanes to hot air balloons. Mr. Wirt earned his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. His business experience included working for the family business (Wirt Transportation) and as an Investment Advisor with Merrill Lynch. Mr. Wirt passed away in 2017.

Mrs. Wirt earned her B.S. Degree in Secondary Education from Eastern Michigan University and has served on the Essexville-Hampton School Board for 12 years, including several as President. Presently, she has her own business in jewelry design. Together they’ve raised their two sons, both grown now.

Mr. and Mrs. Wirt have always been very active in their community and supported various charitable organizations, among which is the Alexis de Tocqueville Society, a group of philanthropists who donate at least $10,000 per year to the United Way.

They established the scholarship fund in 1999 to recognize academic achievement and encourage and assist students at SVSU seeking degrees in the College of Business . Learn more about their family business at www.wirtleasing.com
