Saginaw Bay Underwriters

The Saginaw Bay Underwriters Employees Endowed Scholarship in honor of Kurt Ewend was established under the leadership of Kurt Ewend, President of Saginaw Bay Underwriters in 1997. It was renamed to honor him following his death in June 2000.

Founded in 1863, Saginaw Bay Underwriters is a full-service independent insurance agency serving the Tri-City area with offices in Saginaw and Bay City. Mr. Ewend joined the Carman Toft Agency, the predecessor of Saginaw Bay Underwriters, in 1959. Mr. Ewend was a founding partner of Saginaw Bay Underwriters. Mr. Ewend and his wife, Barbara, were members of the SVSU Annual Fund Committee. Mr. Ewend was active in many community organizations until the time of his death.

His son, Peter Ewend, is President of Saginaw Bay Underwriters today. The company continues to support the scholarship fund.
