Mrs. Robert J. (Ruth) Black

Robert J. Black was a graduate of Fenn University in Ohio. Mr. Black was a materials engineer and plant manager for The Dow Chemical Company in Midland. The scholarship program has been providing assistance to SVSU students for 23 years. Mr. Black’s wife, Ruth, established the fund in 1985. Mrs. Black supported the scholarship fund during her lifetime and, after her death, she left a generous estate gift to increase the fund.

At the time she established the scholarship fund, Mrs. Black said, “It is wonderful to feel one is able to give help to someone in need.” Both Mr. and Mrs. Black wanted to help students achieve their goal of earning a degree in Engineering.
