Melvyn K. and Myrna Adelman

Mr. Adelman and his wife, Myrna, established the Melvyn K. and Myrna Adelman Track & Cross Country Endowed Scholarship to assist SVSU student athletes in the Track and Cross Country programs. Melvyn K. Adelman was a Saginaw Valley State University Alumnus and long-time supporter of the University’s Track and Cross country program. Through his diligent fundraising efforts and his own personal generosity, he secured the funding necessary to establish the Women’s Cross Country Program in 1988.

He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan and was part owner of Bay City Milling and Grocery Company for thirty years. He sold the company and earned his Master’s Degree at SVSU in Criminal Justice and Political Science in 1991. That same year, he was honored with the SVSU Distinguished Service Medallion in recognition of his countless volunteer hours to athletic programs, especially the Women’s Track and Cross Country programs.

Mr. Adelman was also a member of SVSU’s adjunct faculty for several years, teaching classes focusing on the political and social issues in criminal justice. Mr. Adelman passed away in 2020, at the age of 86.
