Maynard L. Smith

Maynard L. Smith was born in Bay City in May 1921, and remained a resident until his death in 2004. Mr. Smith attended Handy High School, graduated from the Hill School, and attended Wesleyan University. He served in the U.S. Naval Air Service in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Mr. Smith was the Treasurer of Metal Frames Company, and was President of Acracast Company. He actively supported the United Way and Delta College. He was an avid sailor and a member of the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club. Mr. Smith loved nature and enjoyed skiing, hiking, duck hunting, fly fishing for trout, and mountain climbing.

Mr. Smith left a large portion of his estate in a charitable trust to provide scholarship opportunities for students at Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College.

Scholarships
