Martin and Emma Block

Mr. and Mrs. Block were long-time business owners in Saginaw County. One of the first retail businesses in Saginaw Township was started by Mr. and Mrs. Block. They were owners of Block’s Plaza on Center Road, near Gratiot. Mrs. Block was employed by the Consumers Power Company, now Consumers Energy. The Blocks were strong supporters of the Lutheran Church and Michigan Lutheran Seminary.

They believed strongly in the power of education. Three of their nieces achieved advanced degrees and became educators, which greatly impressed Mr. and Mrs. Block. Mr. Block passed away in 2003, and Mrs. Block in 2005. They made arrangements in their estate planning to create this scholarship fund, to leave a legacy for students who share their love of education. The scholarship program is divided evenly between assisting Nursing and Education students.
