Gladys Hernandez-Zubulake

A professor emerita of Modern Foreign Languages, Gladys Hernández-Zubulake joined SVSU in 1991 and spent 10 years as a Director of the Bilingual/Bicultural Teacher Training Program in the College of Education. From 2001, she served on the SVSU faculty teaching Spanish courses, including ten years as department chair. She collaborated in establishing the local chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, Spanish Honorary Society. Two statewide organizations have selected Hernández-Zubulake for Educator of the Year: the Michigan Foreign Language Association in 2004 and the Michigan Educational Opportunity Fund in 1998. She also received the Ruben Daniels Community Service Award in 2000, SVSU’s highest recognition of employee community involvement and service. In 2006, she was given the Franc A. Landee Teaching Excellence Award, and in 2012, she received the House Family Award for Teacher Impact. She also advised Spanish majors/minors as well as students who plan to study abroad in Spanish-speaking countries. Dr. Hernandez-Zubulake retired from SVSU in 2016.
