Mr. Sexsmith was All Conference (GLIAC) in 1973, and was on the SVSU Golf Team when they first qualified for the NAIA National Tournament (1974) and placed 14th in Aberdeen, South Dakota. His two-year scoring average was 79.2. At the time of his death at the age of 40 in 1990, Mr. Sexsmith was a sales representative for Champion Motor Homes.

Mr. Sexsmith’s friends and family established the scholarship fund in 1994 to honor his memory and his achievements in the game of golf. Proceeds from annual golf outings helped build the fund to provide more scholarship opportunities for SVSU student golfers.
