Fred T. Harring
Fred T. Harring enrolled at SVSU in 1979 as a transfer student from Michigan State University and joined Coach Hansen’s nationally recognized cross country and track and field programs as a walk-on student-athlete. Fred went on to excel at SVSU, not only in athletics, but as a scholar and student leader, graduating with a B.S. in Political Science, magna cum laude and serving as President of the University’s Student Government, among other activities. Fred continued his education with postgraduate studies at Georgetown University and Marquette University, and received his J.D. magna cum laude from Wayne State University. He has enjoyed a successful career in the legal and business fields.
Dr. Douglas Hansen was a significant influence in Fred’s life, both as a coach and mentor, during his time at SVSU and afterward. He gave Fred a chance. Dr. Hansen’s lessons and example continue to resonate with Fred, and countless others, to this day. It is Fred’s desire to recognize Dr. Hansen by supporting SVSU cross country and track and field student-athletes who have joined those programs as walk-ons and gone on to achieve academically, athletically, and in student leadership positions.
