Family of Dr. Zubeda S. Khan
Dr. Zubeda Saied Khan was born in Pakistan in 1962, where she earned her medical degree from the Dow Medical College in 1987. Shortly after she met her husband, Dr. Mohammad Y. Khan. Dr. Khan completed her family medicine residency at Saginaw Cooperative Hospitals, Inc., and then joined Janes Street Academic Health Center. She then spent several years with Covenant MedExpress and St. Mary’s of Michigan in Birch Run before joining Phoenix Family Physicians in Saginaw. Dr. Khan spent the last few years in private practice.
Through the Saginaw County Medical Society (SCMS), Dr. Khan was a leader in the local medical community. She joined the SCMS Board as an Alternate Delegate in 2009 and served in multiple leadership positions including a Delegate, Director and President-Elect. Due to her illness, she resigned from the SCMS Board before serving her term as President.
A pillar in the local community, Dr. Khan was a teacher and mentor to many through the Islamic Center of Saginaw and a dedicated volunteer with the Eastside Soup Kitchen. She was knowledgeable on many subjects including history and world religions, an avid gardener and reader, talented chef, and she enjoyed many crafts including embroidery, knitting, and sewing. Dr. Khan passed away on January 30, 2021, and is survived by her husband and two daughters, Mariam and Angubeen. She will always be remembered for her commitment and compassion for serving the Saginaw community.
In honor of Dr. Khan, the Zubeda S. Khan Endowed Scholarship has been established to support freshman students in their first year of college who exemplified excellence in their high school coursework, demonstrated service and leadership in their community, and intend to pursue a health science major.
