Family and Friends of Thomas H. Busch
Mr. Busch grew up in Alma, Michigan, and attended Central Michigan University. He was a police officer for the City of Saginaw before beginning a 31-year career at Total Petroleum, Inc. of Alma. Mr. Busch retired in 1994, and passed away suddenly in 1995, at the age of 63. Mr. Busch was an avid and accomplished golfer who won and placed in various tournaments in the area. He enjoyed belonging as a member to Valley View Farms Golf Course in Saginaw and Riverwood Golf Course in Mt. Pleasant for many years. He traveled to Scotland in 1980 with a group of friends to play historic courses like St. Andrews and Turnberry.
Catherine Busch, Mr. Busch’s wife of 32 years, was a teacher in Saginaw Township for many years before pursuing a career in real estate. Emmie Busch, Mr. Busch’s daughter, is a member of the staff of the SVSU Foundation Office. The scholarship was established to honor Mr. Busch’s memory, his commitment to professionalism and sportsmanship in the game of golf, and his strong support of his daughter’s educational goals.
The Busch family raised the funds to establish the scholarship fund by holding three golf outings in 1995, 1996, and 1997. The events were attended by many of Mr. Busch’s colleagues from Total, and long-time golfing friends.
