Family and Colleagues of Steve Yanca
Steve Yanca, PhD, MSW, LMSW, ACSW, LMFT was a member of the Social Work faculty from 1991 – 2012. He received his PhD in Family Studies and Social Work from Michigan State University in 2002, and his Master of Social Work degree from Wayne State University in 1976. He was active on the SVSU Faculty Association Executive Board and as an elected representative on various FA committees. He was Social Work department chair and field education program coordinator for many years.
Steve co-authored (with Louise Johnson) three social work practice texts & instructors manuals published by Allyn & Bacon: Social Work Practice: A Generalist Approach, Generalist Social Work Practice with Groups & Generalist Social Work Practice with Families. He was active in local, state and national social work organizations and was a frequent presenter on social work with groups
Prior to joining the SVSU faculty, Steve worked with Bay-Arenac Community Mental Health, Michigan Human Service in Detroit, Child and Family Services of Bay County, and Saginaw County Juvenile Court. He was a board member of Saginaw County Youth Protection Council from 2001 until his death.
Steve’s family and friends established this scholarship in his memory to assist SVSU Social Work students.
