Family and Colleagues of Hamza Ahmad
Hamza Ahmad was born in 1967 in Jahra, Kuwait. He received his BS in Physics from Kuwait University in 1990, an MS in 1992 and a Ph.D. in 1995 in Mathematics from Louisiana State University. Between 1994 and 2006, ten articles authored by Dr. Ahmad were published in scholarly journals. He joined the SVSU faculty in 2001 and passed away on February 11, 2007 with several papers still pending publication.
Dr. Ahmad had a special interest in passing on his enthusiasm for solving mathematical problems to the next generation. He coached the Michigan All-Star Team for the American Regions Math League and participated in SVSU’s Math Olympics Competition. He received the SVSU Faculty Association Award in 2006, and the Warrick Award for Excellence in Research posthumously in 2007.
The Hamza Ahmad Memorial Scholarship honors Dr. Ahmad’s memory, and his love for Mathematics and sharing knowledge with others. This scholarship fund was established by his wife, Dr. Nancy Colwell, a faculty member at SVSU. The endowment fund also receives funding and gifts from Dr. Ahmad’s family and colleagues at SVSU.
