Dr. Samuel & Mrs. Patricia Shaheen
Dr. Samuel and Mrs. Patricia Shaheen led members of the Lebanese community in the Bay-Midland-Saginaw tri-county area to establish The American Lebanese Community Endowed Scholarship for SVSU students, with a special focus on diversity and those who have knowledge of and experience with Lebanese culture. They are proud of their Middle Eastern heritage and share the belief that education is the key to individual success and to assimilation into the American culture.
Patricia Shaheen was a member of the Board of Directors of the SVSU Foundation from 1995-2000, and is herself a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University. Mrs. Shaheen has earned many awards in the area community, including the Girl Scouts of Mitten Bay Women of Distinction Award, and the SVSU Distinguished Alumna Award.
Dr. Shaheen practiced Family Medicine in Bridgeport and Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from the College of Osteo Med Midwestern University with a DO and was in the profession for nearly 60 years. He passed away in 2013.
Dr. & Mrs. Shaheen have been responsible for many important development projects in the local community, including the renovation of the historic Temple Theatre in Downtown Saginaw, and the Horizons Conference Center. They also renovated a former school, McBrite, into an assisted living facility, McBrite Manor, and built the Shattuck Manor assisted living facility.
