Dr. Samuel and Mrs. Gladys Marble
Samuel Marble (pictured) was a published author who began his career as a professor of Political Science. Dr. Marble was the first President of Delta College (1958-1964) and the first President of Saginaw Valley State University (1964-1974). Dr. Marble guided Saginaw Valley College through its early development, building the foundation for a thriving, four-year institution. After leaving the Saginaw area, Dr. Marble pursued a career as a psychologist in Port Huron.
The Gladys and Samuel Marble Graduate Business Scholarship Fund:
Gladys Marble was part of the first staff at Saginaw Valley College, providing administrative support to the President’s Office. Mrs. Marble was responsible for hiring and training college support staff members during her many years of service. Mrs. Marble established this scholarship in 1997 to assist graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in Business.
The Samuel Marble Memorial Scholarship:
An additional scholarship was established by the SVSU Board of Control on June 11, 1990. This scholarship is designated for a transfer student from Delta College as a way of honoring Dr. Marble’s contribution to both institutions.Family and friends of Dr. Marble donated the funds that established the endowment.
