Dr. David Rayfield

David Rayfield was a Professor of Philosophy at Saginaw Valley State University from 1970 until his retirement in 2005. He will long be remembered by his students and fellow faculty members for his devotion to intellectual rigor, academic freedom, and excellence in writing.
Teaching was the core of David’s professional life, and photography was his creative passion. He was dedicated to perfection in every photograph and participated in many art exhibits at galleries in and around Midland. David’s other interests included camping and classic cars. Dr. David Rayfield passed away on August 21, 2021 after a long illness at the age of 81.

David strongly believed in the importance of education and felt that more help should be available to those with insufficient resources. The Dr. David Rayfield Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established with gifts from family, friends, and colleagues to continue David’s legacy of inspiring and helping future generations learn and succeed.
