Dr. Carlos and Mrs. Jean Ho Ramet

Sebastian Moreno Ramet, a native of Spain, and Ida Maria Sonderegger, a native of Austria, met in London, England and married in 1948. Though Mr. and Mrs. Ramet were not the beneficiaries of advanced education in their youth, both believed strongly in the importance of studying languages. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ramet spoke several languages, traveled widely, and lived in several countries. Completing three years of college, Mrs. Ramet chose Spanish as her major field of study. Mr. Ramet learned Arabic in addition to several European languages. Mr. and Mrs. Ramet instilled in their children a love of language, and learning, and belief in their importance.

The scholarship fund was established in 2006 by Mr. and Mrs. Ramet’s son and daughter-in-law, Carlos and Jean Ho Ramet to honor his parents’ example of lifelong learning and commitment to learning foreign languages. The scholarship is intended to assist students studying Art, Creative Writing, English, French, History, International Studies, Music, Spanish, or Theatre. Dr. Carlos Ramet is the Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Behavioral Sciences at Saginaw Valley State University.
