Dow Corning
Dow Corning was established in 1943 specifically to explore the potential of silicones. The company was created as a joint venture between Corning Glass Works (now Corning, Inc.) and The Dow Chemical Company. Dow Corning provides performance-enhancing solutions to serve the diverse needs of more than 20,000 customers worldwide. Dow Corning offers over 7,000 products and services. More than half Dow Corning’s sales are outside the United States. The company was purchased by Dow in 2016.
Dow Corning supported various scholarships including the establishment of a public service scholarship and an employee scholarship fund.
The public service scholarship was established to express appreciation for and honor the accomplishments of the regional legislative delegation through the creation of a scholarship fund to assist students with a demonstrated commitment to public service. The company specifically honors Senators James Barcia, Tony Stamas, and Roger Kahn; and Representatives Jeff Mayes, Ken Horn, Andy Coulouris, John Moolenaar, and Bill Caul.
The employee scholarship fund was established by SVSU alumni who are employed by Dow Corning. Janet M. Botz, a graduate of SVSU and Executive Director of Corporate Communications, spear-headed the fund raising effort. The scholarship was established in 1998 and is intended to assist students seeking careers in business, engineering, or the sciences.
