DeGroat Family

Clara Davis DeGroat received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Saginaw Valley State University in 1973, majoring in secondary education. She began a family tradition as the first of three generations to graduate from SVSU, her daughter (Michelle DeGroat Lemuel), her grandson (Justin DeGroat), and her granddaughter (Kayla Lemuel), following in her footsteps. She enjoyed learning and teaching others, and shared her passion for education with students in both the Saginaw Township and Saginaw Public Schools. She was committed to the value of a college education and believed that knowledge is power.
Clara passed away in 2020, and her family is honoring her memory with the establishment of this scholarship in her name.
