David E. Barker

Dr. David E. Barker, professor emeritus of Modern Foreign Languages, established a scholarship to assist majors/minors in French in furthering their education at SVSU.

Dr. Barker was a faculty member in the Department of Modern Foreign Languages from 1971 until his retirement in 2009. He served as department chair for the majority of his tenure, and upon his retirement the SVSU administration dedicated the departmental computer laboratory in his honor. In 1998, he was given the Franc A. Landee Award for Excellence in Teaching. He was instrumental in establishing the local chapter of Alpha Mu Gamma, national honorary for foreign language students, and the local chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, national service fraternity. He served as University commencement marshal for over 20 years.
