Craig and Joan Douglas

This scholarship is in memory of Carrollton High School graduate Derrick Nash (class of 2013), who distinguished himself as an exemplary student athlete. A member of the National Honor Society, Mr. Nash was a consensus all-state running back in 2012, leading the state in rushing yardage and touchdowns his senior year. It was later that spring that he learned he had cancer, and Derrick heroically fought the disease for more than two years before passing away on June 21, 2015. The scholarship was established by Craig and Joan Douglas, who were fortunate to know Derrick and his family. Dr. Douglas served as Dean of the College of Education at SVSU until his retirement in 2018. Joan passed away in 2023, and the Douglas family continues to honor Derrick’s memory through this scholarship. They reside in Carrollton.
